Job Vacancies:

Senior Professional Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineer

We are looking for a highly skilled Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineer to join our team.

About Blender
Innovation and product development is at the core of what we do! Established in 2006, Blender has achieved 4 placings at the Australian Good Design Awards, 2 Regional Finalist placings at the NZ Westpac Business awards and 12 placings at NZ’s own Best Awards. We have very collaborative relationships with our clients and support them to shape great ideas and move through production and procurement where needed. This collaboration between a great team and superb clients has allowed Blender to successfully form and implement growth strategies over the last few years, with an eye to the future. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about innovation, collaboration and sustainable design.

About the role

Your role as a Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineer will involve a range of critical problem solving tasks across a range of products. You will have a high degree of CAD design responsibility, as well as producing and reviewing drawings and specifications for prototyping and mass production. It is essential that you are well versed in Solidworks – which will be assessed during the interview process.

You must have demonstrable experience designing plastic injection moulded and electro-mechanical products; dealing with advanced surfaces, multibody assemblies and fine tolerances. You must also have experience using engineering analysis tools.

You must also possess exceptional communication skills, to allow you to communicate daily with our cross-cultural, cross-functional teams. As we are a consulting service, you are expected to build strong professional relationships with existing and new clients, as well as manufacturers.

Benefits

Culture eats strategy for breakfast. We remember this adage and we take great pride in our workplace culture and environment. In doing so, we form a closely knit team that leverages our collective experience in supporting one another on project goals. It’s not a single horse race, but an expectation that we have each other’s backs. This is the internal collaboration that drives our success.

Based in Albany, we offer an updated, open-plan office with fruit, tea and coffee facilities (steam wand prowess viewed favourably), sit-stand desks, primary boardroom and a comfortable break-out room with a design-resource library. Having also expanded to the building next door, we double our staff parking space and physical amenities. Our prototyping workshop is well equipped and ever-expanding, with a specially built climate controlled 3D printing cabinet. We actively encourage and fund professional development and offer very competitive salaries in line with your experience and ability.

Skills and experience

  • A Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics qualification
  • 7+ years experience in a ME/Mech role, developing products and systems
  • 5+ years active experience using Solidworks. Including large assemblies, complex surfacing, mechanisms & electrical integration, top down modelling practices, FEA part analysis.
  • 3+ years active experience using an ECAD platform, Altium or similar.
  • Understanding and demonstrable experience of core concepts including mechanics, mechatronics, kinematics and material science
  • Understanding and demonstrable experience of manufacturing processes and prototyping technologies, in particular injection moulding, rotational moulding and sheet metal
  • Knowledge of engineering analysis tools (FEA)
  • Understanding and demonstrable experience of NPD processes and best practices
  • Coding knowledge  (Python or C)
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills
  • A desire to be continually learning, contribute to our team and create change
  • An interest in cutting edge technology, electronics and innovative systems

Please note:

  • Only short-listed applicants will be contacted.
  • A professional portfolio is requested for submission.

If you’ve been looking for a workplace that has a high variety of projects, within a supportive atmosphere we would like to hear from you.

About the role

Our Product Design Engineer role sits directly between our Industrial Designers and Mechanical Engineers, working closely with them to develop products through to manufacture. With a focus on accuracy and production detailing you will have the ability to problem solve and find innovative and elegant solutions to design challenges. You will also be able to communicate this at a high level within our team, and externally to our clients and suppliers.

Solidworks experience is a must in this role. You will produce complex top down Solidworks assemblies and technical drawings. You will also maintain and develop key design elements and requirements from concept drawings and detailed sketches through to product specifications. You will also spend time prototyping and carrying out product testing, using our workshop as an extension of your desk.

Having knowledge of tooling and production processes will allow you to provide insight and deeper understanding while designing for manufacture.
