Since completing my Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) in 2004 I have worked on a number of interesting and challenging projects. I started out as a student then graduate at F&P Healthcare where I learned a great deal about both product and process development. We were encouraged to be hands on and it was a great opportunity to learn aspects of skills connected to product design and mechanical engineering such as mould design, machining and fabrication. Being involved in projects from early concept stages through to bespoke manufacture was a great introduction to the project development lifecycle.

I left on my OE to travel Europe in 2007 and ended up staying in the United Kingdom on a long term visa. During my travels I met three other people and we co-founded a company called Eyejusters in 2010 to bring low-cost vision correction to the Developing World.

It was a steep learning curve but an exciting one where I learnt first hand about the challenges facing start up companies. I eventually came home in 2012 and continued my work with Eyejusters but with a young family it was difficult for me to travel to the UK on a regular basis. With the company established in a sales and marketing phase I looked for new challenges and joined the team at Blender in late 2017.

I particularly enjoy process development within the realm of new product development. It provides a good mix of lateral thinking, research and hands-on activities. Like with product design each day can be completely different and the challenges encountered produce the opportunity to solve problems.
