Southern Spars were looking to develop their existing stainless steel tube crows nest to suit specific customer requirements.

Blender was required to work within Southern Spars standard manufacture practices to develop the existing design and also incorporate standard components and mechanisms.

An additional brief was added to explore a design for a composite carbon crows nest as an additional offering to their clients.

Blender produced a range of realistic CAD renderings for Southern Spars to present to the customer.

The carbon composite crows nest is suited for large super yachts. The top teak rail uses a gentle arc to accent the curve found on the deck of a boat, while the teak flooring compliments similar details commonly found on board super yachts. The flooring and seat have built in draining features, this was incorporated by designing specific details into the composite mouldings. The openings around the sides have a soft visual impact and help reduce material costs while retaining structural integrity in the design.
