CHALLENGE
Smaller cans. Higher expectations.
Slim canned beverages, RTDs, energy drinks, premium sodas, have seen a surge in popularity worldwide. But the humble slim can had never had a cooler designed specifically for it. Huski, long known for making the cold drink experience better for beer and wine drinkers, saw an obvious gap.
The brief wasn’t simply to shrink an existing cooler down to size. In true Huski fashion, the ask was to understand what else could be done to elevate the experience, to surprise and delight, not just insulate. That meant looking hard at the moments that frustrate slim can drinkers: broken nails from awkward tabs, sand or insects finding their way into an open can, the can sitting too low in a sleeve and interfering with every sip.
As Huski’s long-standing design partner, the Blender team understood exactly what Huski customers expect from every product in the range: premium performance, considered details, and nothing that feels like an afterthought.
APPROACH
Built on what works. Pushed further than before.
The strategy, as with earlier Huski products, was to build on what customers already love rather than start from scratch. The Huski Beer Cooler, with its iconic removable bottle opener tucked into the base, served as the design reference point. The Slim Can Cooler needed to feel like a natural extension of the family.
The real design challenge was the Can Tab Slider. More than 30 iterations and prototypes were developed before the team landed on the right solution. It had to open cans cleanly across every major brand of slim can, each with its own subtle dimensional variations without being too stiff or too loose. It had to slide to cover the opening without trapping pressure or causing spills. And it had to live discreetly in the base, where the silicone pad that protects surfaces also holds it in place.
Equal care went into the cooler itself. The can sits deliberately proud of the rim so the sleeve never interferes with the drinker’s lips, a detail that competing products have missed and that customers immediately noticed. The scalloped side panels improve grip. The wall thickness was refined to maximise thermal performance without adding unnecessary bulk.
Every adjustment was tested. Every dimension was deliberate.
