Turning a great idea into a refined prototype or polished design is an exciting achievement. But the next big step, manufacturing, often brings a whole new set of challenges and for many, it can be a steep learning curve.
Blender supports businesses through the entire product lifecycle, guiding them through the intricacies of manufacturing and production. Whether it’s your first production run in our purpose-built Auckland facility or scaling up to offshore manufacturing, we’re there every step of the way. With a focus on creating efficient, scalable processes and maintaining the highest standards of product quality, Blender makes navigating the complexities of manufacturing a smoother, more rewarding experience.
In this article, Production and Supply Manager Tobin Raj shares how Blender’s approach to contract manufacturing helps businesses manage production challenges, streamline processes, and shift gears when the time is right to start scaling.

Designing with manufacturing in mind
Good design is about more than just creating a functional product – it’s about making sure it’s ready to succeed both in the real world and on the production line. That’s why it’s important, right from the start, to be thinking about how a product will be manufactured efficiently and scaled as needed. This forward-thinking process helps to avoid unnecessary delays and costly changes later on in the product development process.
“From the very beginning, we’re thinking about factors like production constraints, materials, supply chain and scalability,” says Tobin. “By addressing these issues upfront, we save time and money later.
This proactive mindset is reinforced by Blender’s commitment to achieving ISO 9001 certification in 2026, a globally recognised standard for quality management systems. While the certification is an achievement in itself, its true value lies in what it means for Blender’s clients.
“For our clients, working with a partner that meets ISO 9001 standards will add confidence at every stage of production,” says Tobin. “It demonstrates that our processes are robust, repeatable, and designed to deliver consistently high-quality outputs.”
From supplier management to final product inspections, ISO certification gives clients assurance that their products will meet international benchmarks for reliability and performance. It’s not just about compliance – it’s about setting a foundation for long-term success.

Trailblazing with Timescapes
Timescapes, a leader in advanced camera systems for construction site monitoring, turned to Blender early in their design process to help develop key components for their product. This included the camera housings, mounting brackets, and solar panel supports — parts that needed to stand up to tough outdoor conditions like UV exposure, heavy rain, and the physical demands of busy sites.
“Blender has been part of our journey from the start, and we realised how much value they could bring beyond design,” says Brad Jarrett, Timescapes’ Supply Chain Manager. “They’ve got all the base knowledge of our product, so their experience has been a huge help in making the right calls on quality and design, keeping everything on track as we move forward.”
Having Blender on board has allowed Timescapes to focus on what they do best – innovating and growing their business. “They’ve proven that they can change on the fly and help us out with things as we go,” says Brad. It’s this kind of partnership – one that goes beyond just getting the job done – that makes Blender such an important part of Timescapes’ journey.

Seamless scaling
As a business grows, so do its production needs. “Scaling up can feel overwhelming,” says Tobin. “Whether it’s increasing production volumes or moving manufacturing to larger suppliers, we’re here to make that process straightforward.”
For some clients, growth means transitioning from small in-house production at Blender’s premises to offshore manufacturing with higher capacities. “We work closely with our clients to figure out when it’s the right time to move to larger suppliers,” says Tobin. “We provide all the necessary manufacturing documentation and even liaise with new suppliers to make sure the transition is seamless.”
Managing stock is another area where Blender adds real value during the scaling process. “If a supplier’s minimum order is larger than what a client needs right now, we can store the extra stock in our warehouse and release it as needed,” Tobin explains. This approach is a lifesaver for businesses navigating the tricky middle ground of growing demand without fully ramping up production.

Always improving
Continuous improvement isn’t just a buzzword – it’s part of Blender’s ethos. The goal isn’t just to deliver a product, but to constantly find ways to refine the process, improve quality, and create efficiencies that benefit clients. Whether it’s streamlining workflows, or refining production methods, we’re always looking for ways to add value – not just for today, but for the long term.
“If we spot areas where we can optimise – like developing custom jigs to make handling faster or fine-tuning steps to boost efficiency – we bring those ideas to the client. It’s all about helping them get the most out of their investment,” says Tobin.
This problem-solving mindset also means we’re quick to adapt to challenges or feedback. “If a manufacturing issue comes up, we don’t just fix it and move on,” Tobin explains. “We take a step back, figure out the root cause, and create a solution that prevents it from happening again.”
It’s this proactive, collaborative approach that makes continuous improvement such a core part of how Blender works – and why our clients trust us to deliver not just great products, but better processes every step of the way.
